Malaria, Dengue, Typhoid, Chikungunya, and Diarrhea Are on the Rise in Hyderabad

Amid heavy rains, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is monitoring the quality of water being supplied in the city because it perceives a threat from water-borne diseases. The prolonged rains and cold waves in Telangana have led to an increase in malaria, dengue, typhoid, chikungunya, and diarrhea cases in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

These diseases were caused by sudden changes in weather, increased mosquitoes, and cold waves within the limits of GHMC.

A health department alert had been sent out to doctors and staff in areas affected by flooding to prepare for any emergency.

Various symptoms, including headache, body pain, fever, loose motions, vomiting, and dizziness, are being reported by private doctors. Dengue, typhoid, Chikungunya, malaria, and diarrhea were found to be the most common diseases among these patients.

Citizens have been advised to boil their water before consuming it since the rainy season causes water to become contaminated, leading to the spread of many diseases. Doctors say that boiling water can prevent these diseases. People were also advised not to consume roadside food.

Officials from the HMWSSB visited the Old City of Hyderabad to check the water quality.

Director (operations) A Krishna told a news agency that the water supply was cut off in areas receiving complaints of water pollution

Typhoid patients are on the rise in Telangana, according to the Department of Health.  The state is also experiencing an increase in dengue cases.

It is believed that people can stay healthy by keeping their homes and surroundings clean.  When people experience severe fevers, headaches, or dizziness, health experts recommend they visit their doctors.

Additionally, doctors recommended that people ensure their homes are free of mosquitoes and flies.  According to them, action needs to be taken by GHMC in this regard urgently.
