Man arrested for blackmailing 100 women with their fake nude pictures

The national capital registered a disgustful incident as a 26-year-old man was arrested after allegedly blackmailing over 100 women using pictures of their private parts.

The accused, Sumit Jha, used to threaten young women by circulating their nudes on social media platforms if they did not fulfill his demand of giving him hefty amounts of money. He was arrested following the complaint of a south Delhi resident with whom the man was attempting to do the same.

Cops say that he was arrested in similar incidences earlier as well in Chhattisgarh. Jha has confessed to his crime and is currently under police custody. The mobile phone utilized to carry out the crime, which stores the indecent photographs, has also been taken from him.

The south Delhi woman in her complaint said that Jha “hacked into her account on Instagram”, got hold of her pictures, and threatened to leak her nude pictures online if she did not give him money. Based on this, a case of sexual harassment, extortion, and criminal intimidation was lodged against him.

The complaint further mentioned the accused’s acts of getting into the victim’s contact list as well from whom he demanded money.

A detailed inquiry was kickstarted after receiving the complaint to track the man who was making use of internet calling to hide his location.

The Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell, however, received the required technical details from Instagram itself and finally traced Jha according to the information furnished by the network provider.

In order to extort money from his victims, the accused would use the profile pictures of women from their social media profiles, tweak them and design the fake photographs for blackmailing.

Post the creation of such fake indecent pictures, he would then contact the women and send threatening messages to them mentioning that he has their nude pictures. To send them in shock and scare them further, he would send one of the pictures when his targets asked for proof.

The accused lives in Nodi presently and is a graduate degree holder. Police said he learned phishing techniques and started his blackmailing business.
