Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi went to the cops after rape threats to her daughter on Twitter, the accused, Girish Maheshwar, was arrested from Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Chaturvedi took to Twitter to thank Mumbai Police, Delhi Police for their help and also tagged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for taking up the issue.
The accused has been identified as Girish Maheshwari, a resident of Mumbai. The ministry had earlier asked Twitter to provide details of the account user @GirishK1605. Maheshwari was held from Bavla near Ahmedabad, a Mumbai police official said. The accused is now being brought to Mumbai and will be made to appear before the Dindoshi court later today. The Mumbai Police had lodged the case under Section 509 (word, gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and under apt sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Information Technology Act.
