Mayor inaugurates Swachh centre

Hyderabad : Swachh Centre (Dry Waste Collection Centre), an initiative of GHMC and SukukiExnora (NGO associated with Solid Waste Management) was inaugurated by Mayor Bonthu Rammohan in the presence of MLA A. Gandhi. Harichandana, Zonal Commissioner, Serilingampally, GHMC. Swachh center is supported by Aurobindo Pharma Foundation as its CSR program.

The Swachh center, uniquely constructed beneath the flyover, will provide storage facilities for dry waste such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass. It will meet the storage needs of the SAT (Swachh
Auto Trolley) drivers and allow them the advantages of sharing transport costs and better prices for the recyclables.
Mayor BonthuRammohan said DRCC was the need of the hour in view of increasing urbanization. He appreciated the CSR initiative of the Aurobindo Pharma Foundation and that this would to some extent reduce the waste transported to transfer station and Jawharnagar Dumpyard. Harichandana, Zonal Commissioner said the Swachh Centre was part of the 10-day program which was taken up at the directions of the Municipal Administration Minister  KT Rama Rao. He also made an appeal to more corporate entities to support DRCC.
Swachh Centre components covered storage space of over 2000 ft, separate enclosures for paper, plastic, metal, e-waste and glass recyclables, Baling Unit, Enclosure for Floral waste management, Potter facility, Facility for 10 SATs Drivers, Employment for 20 persons, Handling capacity of 10 Tonnes per day and Rainwater harvesting facility. The Swachh workers were provided with safety equipment like gloves, masks, uniforms, and caps. (NSS)
