New Delhi: Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbad Naqvi to hold Iftar for Talaq victim muslim women on June 13. Families of Talaq victim women has also been invited. First time such an Iftar is organised for the victims.
Last week President Ram Nath Kovind announced that he will not host an Iftar party this year, in accordance with his decision to not observe any religious functions inside Rashtrapati Bhawan at taxpayers’ expense.
President Kovind, who assumed office last July, decided not to use Rashtrapati Bhavan for any religious observance.
Recently, BJP MLA from Hyderabad Raja Singh, raised eyebrows with his statement when he said that Iftar parties are hosted by those who are in dire need of votes. In his statement, the BJP MLA said “vote ke bhikaari” hold Iftar parties. A case was later registered against him for hurting the religious sentiments.
Meanwhile, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will be holding Iftar party tomorrow at the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi after a gap of years.
