Musi gate mishap in Nalgonda, CM rushes officials to take preventive measures

Hyderabad : On being informed that regulatory gate No 6 of the Musi project washed away in the old Nalgonda district, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao today directed Secretary in CMO Smita Sabharwal, Engineer-in-Chief (Irrigation) Muralidhar Rao and others to visit the spot immediately and take steps to prevent any untoward incidents. Water level in the project was 644.90 feet, short of Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 645 feet when the crest gate gave way and washed away.

The Chief Minister deployed the officials after Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, who has been monitoring the situation since Saturday, alerted the Chief Minister about the condition of the project over phone.

The officials’ team left in a helicopter to Suryapet from where rushed to the project site by  road to examine the prevailing situation and initiate immediate measures to restore the project crest gate which got washed away on Saturday evening. They have been empowered to take necessary decisions after assessing the situation and restore normalcy on a war-footing basis. The CM wanted them to ensure safety of people as well as reduce wastage of water, gushing out from the gateway. (NSS)
