Naidu slams New SEC chief ; Boycotts ZP, Mandal Parishad elections

The opposition leader in the State and the National President of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Nara Chandrababu Naidu today slammed the newly appointed State Election Commission (SEC) Commissioner Neelam Sawhney and wondered if the new commissioner had the powers to hold the local body elections in the State.

 

He also wondered as to how the new commissioner would issue a notification to hold ZP elections as soon as she took over the charge of the commission. He alleged that the commissioner had become a rubber stamp in the hands of the rulers of the state government. He also announced that the TDP was boycotting the ZPTC and MPTC elections in the state. He said that the party supporters and the people of the state would understand the decision taken by the party.

Speaking to media persons at the state party headquarters, he alleged that the local body elections were not being held as per the constitutional mandate in the state. He alleged that the CM of the state and state ministers were making statements on the organization of the elections and added that they were also holding elections by ignoring the existing rules. Naidu said that they don’t have any option but to take some serious decisions after observing the latest developments in the State.

He alleged that the ruling party leaders were threatening their party leaders, who want to contest the elections. He said that the former Commissioner of the SEC had already written a letter to the governor of the state. He alleged that the ruling party leaders were securing the beneficiaries of various schemes by threatening them to cancel their welfare benefits.

He alleged that the ruling party leaders were threatening the TDP leaders of foisting false red sandalwood theft cases against them and forced them to withdraw their nomination papers. Speaking further Naidu alleged that the local body elections had become an undemocratic election.
