Nigerian Duo Arrested in Hyderabad for Online Scams

Two Nigerian citizens were caught by Hyderabad’s Rachakonda cyber crime squad for their involvement in internet scams. Omenonye Sylvester (23) and Alimeke Endurance Chukkwuka (23), the accused, were indulging in fraudulent operations by duping others into providing presents.

Their strategy includes befriending people on numerous social media networks and tempting them with the prospect of gift shipments. They were able to dupe several victims by imitating European people, and one such victim, Divya, was scammed of Rs 3,63,000 as a result of their plan.

The two had arrived in India on separate student visas from Nigeria and were living in Delhi. On August 15, police arrested them in the Tilak Nagar area of West Delhi and seized evidence including six mobile phones, a Wi-Fi router, two passports, a notebook with bogus social media profiles, and Rs 1,78,000.

Further examination of their mobile phones, SIM cards, and IMEI numbers revealed their involvement in other cybercrimes that were not limited to Delhi. The two were determined to be involved in a number of cybercrime events in the Hyderabad neighborhoods of Cyberabad and Chaderghat, and they were charged in many National Crime Records Bureau (NCRP) petitions across India.

In light of this situation, law enforcement agencies are advising residents to be cautious and avoid accepting friend requests from strangers on platforms like as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and emails. They also warn the public to be aware of online gift offers made in the name of friendship. Individuals who encounter or become victims of cybercrime are encouraged to report such events by dialing 1930 or visiting the approved cybercrime website.
