No tax at Toll Plazas for polls: CEO

Hyderabad: Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rajat Kumar today said the Election Commission today directed toll plazas across the State not to collect fees and ensure free movement of the vehicles to pave an easy way for people to vote in time by reaching their towns and villages.

Talking to mediapersons here today, Rajat Kumar expressed satisfaction over the polling by the people and arrangements in all segments. For smooth voting process by the commuters going to villages, the toll plazas were asked to refrain from collecting the fees, he said. The voters have to cast votes on the poll date in a hassle-free manner and the EC took a decision asking the toll plazas to ensure speedy movement of the vehicles, he told media persons here. “We apologize for some delay in starting the poll process as the machines gave trouble and set them right.

Referring to complaints by voters about losing their votes in some segments, he said the EC took all measures to check duplicacy and ensure that the voters cast their votes, he said adding that there were some incidents in some places. The EC has taken all steps for smooth conduct of the polls and special arrangements were made for disabled persons with wheel chairs and ramps. We have also conducted awareness camps for the voters and poll staff and distributed voter slips for fair and smooth polls, he said.

Rajat Kumar hoped that the polling is likely to be more this time compared to last time. The polling was going on smoothly except at some sporadic incidents in some places. Joint CEO Amrapali also cast her vote at Banjara Hills. (NSS)
