One Crore Sarees to be Distributed by Telangana as a Festival Gift

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has begun the door to door distribution of more than one crore sarees to women as a present for the ‘Bathukamma’ celebration.

The distribution of the sarees started across Telangana on Friday as ministers and other public representatives officially dispatched the activity in the districts.

Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, the officials have embraced a way of the door-to-door distribution of sarees to women aged over 18 years and having white ration cards.

MPs, MLAs, nearby corporators alongside other chosen public representatives will give the sarees in individual divisions appropriately following the COVID-19 rules.

The state government has paid Rs 317.81 crore on the sarees delivered in 287 unique designs.

The sarees will be circulated according to reasonable price shop limits and the eligible women will be given over coupons ahead of time to evade any gatherings or overcrowding at the 993 conveyance points.

The sarees would be conveyed at the doorstep of the recipients by IPK and Anganwadi workers by properly following the COVID-19 safety rules.

Industry Minister K.T. Rama Rao tweeted: “Sarees; a beautiful gift to the one crore women in Telangana & a wonderful boon to the 20,000 plus distressed power loom weavers. 287 plus designs this year.”

This is for the fourth year straight that the government is circulating sarees on the event of Bathukamma, a floral celebration celebrated around Dasara.

Women sing and move around extraordinarily orchestrated flowers during the nine-day folk celebration which starts on October 17.

Since the time the formation of the Telangana state in 2014, Bathukamma has been celebrated as the state festival.

The government began circulation of sarees among women having a place with the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in 2017.

Since 2017, the legislature has distributed four crore sarees. For this 30 lakh meter material was created and about Rs 1,033 crore was paid.

Dispatching the program in Khammam, Transport Minister Ajay Kumar said that no other government in the nation has taken such an honourable activity for women.

He called attention to that the sarees conveyance started with eight designs. Presently there were around 287 designs of sarees accessible with golden and silver shaded zari take a shot at their outskirts.

Minister for BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Gangula Kamalakar, who officially dispatched the distribution of sarees, said Batukamma was a unique festival on the planet.
