“One Million Signatures Campaign” against Masjid demolition close to hit target

To mount pressure on Telangana Government for the rebuilding of two mosques being demolished recently at state secretariat, a campaign to collect one million signatures has been initiated by Joint Action Committee called “Baazyabi Secretariat Masajid” an amalgamation of some opposition parties as well as 40 different organizations of the state.

The main opposition party Congress together with the support of Joint Action Committee (JAC), headed by its convenor Mushtaq Malik, also a president of Tahreek Muslim Shabban, is spearheading the campaign that so far has secured a collection of 7 lakh signatures from the citizens within 10 days of kicking up the drive. This means the campaign has reached to a closer mark of one million supports to their cause with only 3 lakhs signatures are needed to complete the target.

“We have started registering our protest ever since the mosques and the temple were demolished in the secretariat but the campaign gain momentum only from 10th of August. Our primary aim is to pressurize the government for the rebuilding of religious structures at the same place and on a same extent of land. We are not asking an inch of extra land from the government. The mosques, that were demolished last month, were Wakf properties having no government title or stake over it,” claimed Osman Mohammed Khan, a member of JAC and a fore front leader of the campaign from Congress Party.

This “One Million Signature Campaign” became a cynosure due to the overwhelming support it is garnering from the public who have turned obnoxious to the wayward policies of the KCR Government and its political allies,” he asserted.

The campaign, he said, getting support from throughout the Telangana with people voluntarily coming forward to participate in raising “Black Flags” over their houses to register their protest against the demolition of the holy structures besides sticking stickers highlighting the demand.
