Orthopaedic specialist Mazheruddin Ali Khan commits suicide at his house in Banjara Hills

On Monday, noted orthopaedic specialist Mazheruddin Ali Khan reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed weapon at his house in Banjara Hills.

Mazher Ali, who works at the Owaisi Hospital, is the father-in-law of AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi’s second daughter.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Joel Davis, the incident was discovered around the afternoon when Mazheruddin Ali Khan did not respond to phone calls from the hospital or other contacts.

Concerned that the doctor was not returning phone calls, some of his acquaintances informed the housemaids, who checked the room and discovered him lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

“Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. He had a .32 pistol with him. The weapon is seized. Further investigation is going on,” said Joel Davis.

A domestic violence case was filed against Mazher Ali a few months ago after a complaint was made by his wife. The orthopedic doctor was residing separately from his house along with servants.

The body was taken to Osmania General Hospital mortuary by Banjara Hills police for post-mortem examination, where an autopsy was performed and the body was later handed over the body to the relatives.

The police have seized the mobile phone of the doctor and are seeking phone call details to check if he interacted with anyone before allegedly killing himself dead. The weapon has also been seized along with the mobile phone.

The police have also taken statements from people who were present in the house at the time of the incident.
