Osman Sagar keep on receiving inflows while Himayat Sagar fall short of inrush

While the Osman Sagar Lake recorded significant inflows on Wednesday – that prompted the authorities to increase the height of a gate already opened, the Himayat Sagar Lake witnessed no fresh inflows into the reservoir from catchment areas since morning. However, the showering continues to drench Hyderabad city and the outskirts areas for almost a week.

Opening the day today with 1786.00 feet (3.008 TMC) water as against the full tank level of 1790.00 feet (3.900 TMC) in Osman Sagar recorded at 7.30 in the morning, the reservoir witnessed a 0.10 foot increase in the water level by next four hours given the rise in fresh inflows.

The reservoir received 300 cusecs of inflows while the authorities released 312 cusecs of water since morning to feed the Musi River. This has prompted the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials to increase the height of one crest gate from one foot to two foot at 11.30 am.

The present level at Osman Sagar Lake stood at 1786.10 feet (3.029 TMC) as against the full tank level of 1790.00 feet (3.900 TMC). However, no similar trend has been witnessed during the same period at Himayat Sagar Lake, another water body that fed through Musi River, a tributary of River Krishna.

Starting a day with 1760.50 feet (2.363 TMC) as against the full tank level of 1763.50 feet (2.970 TMC) in the morning, the Lake received no significant inflows on Wednesday. As a result the water level recorded a slight decline to a point of 1760.45 feet (2.355 TMC) by the evening from 1760.50 feet (2.363 TMC) recorded early in the morning.

The reservoir received a mere 150 cusecs of inflows the whole day while the HMWSSB authorities released 170 cusecs of water into Musi River by opening a gate up to 0.6 feet. However, with no fresh inflows recorded in the Lake, one gate was pulled down at 8.00 am in the morning on Wednesday.
