Partly cloudy skies expected in Hyderabad till Saturday: IMD

The city is most likely to experience cloudy weather till Saturday after several days of hot and dry weather.

Over the next few days, the city will see partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, according to the India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad prediction. Maximum and lowest temperatures are expected to be about 38 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) experts predict that the maximum temperature will be somewhere between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius in all GHMC circles.

In the meantime, many districts, including Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kamareddy, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, and Vikarabad, would experience moderate rainfall on Friday, according to IMD.

Along with this, it was also predicted that heatwaves were set to occur more often in Telangana. The conclusions of a recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report suggest frequent heatwave spells in South India. The temperature pattern available in the GHMC area reflects this.

Despite typical summer temperatures, experts predict that heatwaves will grow more common in the coming years as more concrete buildings with glass facades are constructed. After statehood, the maximum temperature analysis of various mandals in GHMC shows that Uppal and Musheerabad bore the brunt of the heat, recording single-day peak temperatures.

The IPCC calculated heat stress using the wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT) index. It demonstrates that heat stress is on the verge of reaching critical health thresholds.

Dr Anjal Prakash, research director, adjunct professor, Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School Business (ISB), said that the heatwaves that are being experienced in the city and in Telangana are a part of the climate projections, the spells of heatwaves will increase in a year even though average summer temperatures may not be high and normal temperatures are predicted.
