People in Jalpally irked over growing threat of stray dog attacks

Despite clear cut instructions from the government to GHMC as well as municipalities asking to roll-out measures aimed at tackling stray dogs menace attacking people as well as children, no measures reportedly taken so far by the Jalpally municipality where the cases of dogs roaming in packs are higher compared to any other neighbouring municipality.

Geographically, where the Chandrayangutta constituency comes to end at Salalah, Barkas on the city outskirts, the Jalpally municipal limits begin with Errakunta area and covers almost 32 kilometers of area before seizing the boundaries near Pahadi Shareef Police Station.

One among the 16 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Rangareddy district, the Jalpally municipality was divided into 28 wards which is an abode to nearly 38,000 families from below poverty line and mostly settlers from surrounding districts and neighbouring states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Bihar.

Considered as a densely populated slum enclave close to the city border, this municipal area reports almost every day incidents like feral stray dogs moving in packs and often attacking children and domestic animals like goats and sheeps.

“Though there were incidents of stray dogs attacking people especially children and domestic animals reported even before the similar public outrage from city areas, no attention is given to address such issues neither by the municipality nor by the GHMC despite the fact that the Jalpally municipality standing close on the borders of the GHMC,” rued Samad Bin Siddiq, a community activist.

“Leave alone carrying out animal birth control drives, the municipal authorities even failed to address resident complaints seeking help to protect them from a bunch of stray dogs roaming in the colonies and attacking children and domestic animals,” he bemoaned.

“Even after bringing the violent attacks  of stray dogs into the notice of the Commissioner through written representatives, no measures were done so far to prevent such incidents from happening in Jalpally governed by most apathetic governing body in terms of addressing public grievances,” Mohd Abdul Bari, Vice President Congress Committee Jalpally municipality.
