PM Modi Attacks Derek O’brien Over His Freedom Of Speech Remarks

Rajya Sabha on Monday witnessed Prime Minister Modi in an attacking mode when he took a dig on the Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien while delivering his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the Presidential Address in which he accused the TMC MP to have displayed poor choice of words- freedom of speech, intimidation and that it seemed that he was referring to the West Bengal state and not the nation.

The argumentative tussle began when the Bengal resident Derek tried to corner the Centre on the current farmer’s protest in which he slammed the government to pay attention to the crisis scenario in the National Capitol first and then look for Bengal.

Derek O’Brien and the Prime Minister Modi have had such war of words earlier also. In the parliamentary session on February 4th, when the Prime Minister Modi was delivering his speech, he was abruptly interrupted by the TMC MP and it led to a minute’s silence for the farmers which had lost their lives in the ongoing protest in clashes with the Centre.

Prime Minister addressed the remarks by Derek by saying that he was actually confused whether he was talking about the country or West Bengal as he witnesses such incidents on a much frequent basis. He said that while listening to him, he wondered that because Derek sees such mishaps everyday and delivers the same address there also, therefore thought the same applies here. Members of Trinamool Congress, however, had ‘walked out’ just as the PM Narendra Modi started speaking.

In the same speech, PM attacked the whole Opposition for not understanding the Presidential address properly and hence making such embarrassing remarks which demotivate and bring shame to the nation. He urged them to discuss such matters but to apprehend from commenting on them.

Congress Party Member Pratap Singh Bajwa was one of the other leaders that fell prey to the aggressive remarks of PM.

PM Modi said that Bajwa Sahab disappoints the nation greatly just like his party does, as he went too exaggerative about the scenario and that he feared the Congressman would in any moment even bring the Emergency situation into context and speak great lengths about it.

Concluding his speech the Prime Minister Modi assured the parliamentary house that the Centre is making every attempt to engage into discussion with farmers to avoid the ongoing riots and protests. He also promised that the MSP system will continue working. He told that the Union Agricultural Minister Narendra Singh Tomar is currently in talks with the Farmer leaders and his reported no tensions yet and that the differences shall be resolved soon.
