Following reports of substance abuse cases are on the rise due to over the counter (OTC) sale of certain high risk medicines, the drug control administration swung into action and conducted a meeting with pharmacists, dealers and wholesalers to convey a strong message that sale of drugs without prescription will no longer be allowed and necessary action will be initiated against the violation henceforth.

While speaking on the occasion, the Assistant Director Drug Control Administration (DCA) Rangareddy District Anjum Abida said that “Substance abuse cases are no doubt a blot on the face of the society and cast a shadow over the healthy society. Pharmacists should not allow it to happen or prevail further. They must ensure that no miss use of the medicines should take place.”

“Henceforth, the pharmacists should ensure that medicines will be provided only after checking the prescription from a registered medical practitioner. If anyone found guilty of such practices would be dealt with relevant laws and will lose their license,” She warned.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajendranagar B.Gangadhar, said. “Government is very serious against the unhealthy trade of drugs and other banned narcotic substances like marijuana also known as Ganja in local parlance. The police along with DCA authorities will carry out inspections of medical shops regularly to keep an eye over the substance abuse cases and the murky trade of marijuana as both the affairs are detrimental to a healthy society. Any individual, groups and pharmacists found selling the banned substance or resorting to over the counter sale of medicines without prescription will be booked under relevant laws.”
