Prevent criminal leaders from polls: TJS to Election Commission

Hyderabad: TJS leadership today urged the Election Commission to take action against leaders with criminal background in poll fray in the ensuing elections on December 7. A team of leaders headed by Prof PL Vishweshwar Rao today called on CEO Rajat Kumar at Secretariat here and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Speaking to media persons later, Prof PL Vishweshwar Rao said the TJS has urged the EC to initiate serious action against the leaders with criminal background. As many as 67 candidates with criminal background are in the poll fray representing various political parties, he said. Despite the EC seeking details pertaining to their criminal background, the leaders are reluctant to disclose them. However, the EC should keep a tab on such leaders and stop them from contesting the polls. He also expressed displeasure at TRS chief and Caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for conducting Yagam to win the polls.
