Priority for Protection of Rivers & Projects: Niranjan Reddy

 “Protection of the rivers and projects is of paramount importance for the governments as we built the Kaleshwaram project besides completing several other projects in the State”, said Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy today.

Speaking at a two-day national workshop on “Protection of Rivers” here at the Institute of Engineers at Khairatabad here today, Niranjan Reddy exhorted NGOs and people to participate in the process of protecting the rivers for a better future. “We are supposed to protect water interests for farming, use of domestic, industries and drinking purposes”, he claimed.

The minister said, “ the State Government was protecting the rivers and building several irrigation projects to make them alive. Godavari River flows about 200 km in the State and we built the famous Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project in just three years. No other State or countries have any such record of constructing a big project like that of Kaleshwaram (KLIS)”, the minister claimed.

The State government, under the able leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, was going ahead for fast development in the agriculture and irrigation sectors. He said villages got tractors to shift garbage, avoid pollution, nurseries to grow greenery, and water tanks and graveyards. “We give priority to rural roads for a clean and green environment and power supply for all-round development. In eight years Telangana achieved its aim of growing greenery by 3 percent and forest cover to 31 percent from 24 percent”, he said.

The State government has been implementing ideal schemes for the farmers, women, and people, and also students, he said. The schemes that have flourished rural economy are Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, sheep, fish distribution, KCR kits, Pensions among others, he said.

All these schemes are ideal and being replicated by several other states, he stated. The new state is fast developing in economic activities, pushing industrial growth, he said, adding that the State government offers Rs 10,000 per acre and 24 hours power to the farming sector besides giving Rs 5 lakh to the kin of deceased farmers.

“We are in the forefront to create jobs and employment by attracting world-class companies, and offering them hassle-free permissions.

Our aim is to surpass other States and cities in terms of developing the cities, towns, and villages with more facilities, he maintained.

Waterman of India Rajendra Singh, Water Resources Centre chief V Prakash and others were present.
