Raja Singh’s supporters once again demand his release at a meeting

Supporters of suspended Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh once again publicly demanded his release on Friday at the BJP Sangrama Yatra program in Pedda Amberpet.

Holding posters of Raja Singh and banners reading ‘Raja Singh Zindabad,’ supporters pushed for the MLA’s release at a public meeting. He is currently being held in Cherlapally jail after the Hyderabad police detained him for a year under the Preventive Detention Act. In a video, the MLA made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad, which led to his arrest.

Bandi Sanjay, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, noticed supporters waving pictures of Raja Singh and said PM Modi went to jail, Home Minister Amit Shah went to jail. What is going to happen will definitely happen, he said asking the supporters to sit down.

Raja Singh’s objectionable remarks about Prophet Mohammed sparked outrage in Hyderabad and Telangana, with many young people protesting against him. The MLA is facing 101 cases booked against him, 18 of which are for communal disturbances. His remarks were made in retaliation for the state government allowing comedian Munawar Faruqui to perform at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad.

Following extensive research, the police considered invoking the PD Act against Raja Singh, which did not require him to appear in court.

After the video of him making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad was released on August 22, police decided that it was enough. They booked cases in various police stations in order to keep Hyderabad as a “communal riot-free state.” Raja Singh was arrested the next morning.

In the YouTube video, the suspended BJP MLA made several derogatory remarks about Muslims and the Prophet Muhammad. He was essentially unable to let go of the fact that standup comedian Munawar Faruqui was permitted to perform in the city last week.

After making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad at the end of the video, Raja Singh stated that whatever he said was “comedy.” The MLA stated that he, too, did not like what he said.

Protests erupted in various parts of Old City shortly after the video’s release. Protests against Raja Singh grew stronger after he was released on bail. The BJP disassociated itself from his remarks.

As things began to spiral out of control, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao convened a high-level meeting and directed the police to take tough action. At an internal meeting, top police officials discussed all options, including invoking the PD Act as a super available alternative.
