Rajiv Jayanti celebrated at Gandhi Bhavan

Hyderabad : The 75th birth anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi were here on Tuesday. TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and other party leaders paid rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi at his portrait by garlanding it at Gandhi Bhavan. He later inaugurated a blood donation camp held by Youth Congress leaders at Indira Bhavan. He also paid rich tributes to the former PM’s statue at Somajiguda crossroads. A special program was held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi by senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao.

Speaking on the occasion, Uttam termed the day as a special day. He said they were holding the birthday celebrations at each and every village in the State. He also thanked V. Hanumantha Rao for holding Rajiv Gandhi birthday celebrations at Somajiguda since the last 18 years. He alleged that the BJP leaders were trying to project Congress legendaries Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi as villains. He also alleged that Amit Shah was trying to mislead Parliament about the Congress party leaders. He called upon the people to rebut the baseless criticism of the BJP leaders against the Congress party leaders. He also nailed the comments of the RSS chief Mohan Bhagavath against reservations in the country.

Shabbir Ali recalled the services of former PM and described them as revolutionary. Paying rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, Shabbir Ali said that the edge India is having over other nations in Information Technology, Telecommunication and other digital sectors was solely due to the initiatives taken by Rajiv Gandhi. Calling Rajiv Gandhi the Father of Digital Revolution, he said that lakhs of jobs in the IT and related sectors today were the result of initiatives taken under Rajiv Gandhi’s regime.

Shabbir Ali said that Rajiv Gandhi was highly concerned towards the youth and it was him who reduced the qualifying age for voters from 21 to 18 years. This enabled the involvement of youth in decision making process. Similarly, he said today women were enjoying 33% reservation in local bodies due to the 73rd and 74th Amendments brought by Rajiv Gandhi.

Shabbir Ali said that the Congress party would foil all the attempts by RSS and its functionaries to tamper with the history and would explain the real contribution of Rajiv Gandhi for the nation among the people.
