“Risk Is Not Beyond Us”, ECDC; EU Urges Netizens To Get Vaccinated Soon

Amidst the rising cases of Covid 19 and its variants, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have noted that Covid 19 vaccination is the key way to protect against the disease. Along with its variants including the Delta variant.

Two Agencies Urge People To Get Vaccinated In A “Timely Manner”

As per the latest reports, the Delta variant is fast spreading across the world and the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) on Wednesday released a statement to encourage the people who are eligible for the vaccine and have not received it yet, must get it done “in a timely manner”.

ECDC’s Chief Scientists, Mike Catchpole said that the Covid 19 vaccines are highly effective in protecting the people from the pandemic. And until a large portion of the population is immunized, the risk is not gone.

The organizations further emphasized on getting complete vaccinations with any of the approved vaccines in the region.

However, the organisations did note that no vaccine is 100 percent effective. And there might be some breakthrough infections that are still a possibility within the vaccinated people and will continue to do so as the virus continues to circulate.

Agencies Recommend Continued Covid 19 Appropriate Behaviour Even After Vaccinations

Meanwhile, to contain the spread of the virus, the agencies do recommend everyone to follow the Covid 19 appropriate behaviour and follow the national regulations. People must continue to wear facemasks and maintain social distance. Even from the ones who are fully vaccinated.

Reports suggest that so far, EU has reached vaccination with at least the first dose for 70 percent of the adult population by the end of July. However, the states do hope to increase this percentage soon in the upcoming months.
