RTI query reveals nearly Rs 50cr spent on KCR’s Pragathi Bhavan till date

According to an RTI response on Wednesday, Pragathi Bhavan has cost nearly Rs 50 crores to build. As the official residence of the state chief minister, Pragathi Bhavan is located in Begumpet.

According to the public relations officer of the Telangana government’s roads and buildings department, in response to the Right to Information (RTI) request filed by Hyderabad-based activist Robin Zaccheus, the total expenditure on Pragathi Bhavan since its construction amounts to Rs 49,84,14,145.

In 2016, K Chandrasekhar Rao had the building constructed in the heart of the city. Ten IAS officers’ quarters and 24 peon quarters from the officers’ colony were demolished to build it. It cost Rs 45,91,00,000 to build the complex on nine acres of land during the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The following four years saw another four crores spent.

It consists of five buildings: the residence, the chief minister’s office, Janahitha (meeting hall), and the old CM’s residence.

Revanth Reddy calls Pragathi Bhavan a hub of scams

On Tuesday, TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy slammed the TRS government, claiming that Pragathi Bhavan had become a hotbed of corruption and hub of scams under the present administration and demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP-led NDA government order a probe by central investigative agencies.

Revanth Reddy told reporters at Gandhi Bhavan that several “defected” TRS MLAs who joined the party between 2014 and 2022 received numerous favors in the form of contracts and land regularisations, and that Pragathi Bhavan was the hub for these scams.

Revanth Reddy said that they have credible information that Pragathi Bhavan serves as a hub for a number of scams. He demanded that the BJP-led Union government order a joint investigation by the ED, CBI, and the I-T department to unearth evidence linking KCR and his party members to the scams.
