‘Sahas’ initiative launched by Telangana Police to make workplaces safer for women

The Telangana Police Department launched an initiative on Friday to make workplaces safer for women.

Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali launched the ‘Sahas’ initiative in the presence of DGP Anjani Kumar, Additional DGP, Women Safety Wing Shikha Goel, Femina Miss India Manasa Varanasi, and senior industry representatives.

Sahas, which means “courage” in most Indian languages, is a program that aims to strengthen the ecosystem of support for women who face workplace sexual harassment. The Sahas Microsite, Sahas Sathi Chatbot, Sahas Whatsapp Number, Forum, and online support services were all launched as part of the initiative.

Mahmood Ali said that Telangana continues to set the standard for groundbreaking initiatives involving government-industry collaboration. He praised the state police for their hard work to reduce crime in the state, whilst striving to approach all relevant issues in a humane manner.

DGP Anjani Kumar described ‘Sahas’ as the natural next step in reducing workplace vulnerabilities.

On a conservative estimate, Telangana will have over 3 lakh employers, and the Sahas team will work to ensure that all employers are connected and sensitized through awareness and training activities over time. He also requested that the Sahas Steering Committee ensure the implementation of a massive awareness and training campaign among their stakeholders, including affiliate companies and government departments.

Goel stated that the state has the highest percentage of working women in the country, which is only possible because of the positive environment that Telangana employers have created over time.

She said that Sahas is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, involving a collaboration between industry organizations and a state police force.

C. Shekar Reddy, Chairman, CII & IWN, stated that in his long experience as an entrepreneur and employer, he believed that every employer in Telangana cared deeply about the safety and well-being of women workers.

They will benefit from the assistance provided by legal and training experts in the creation of an enabling ecosystem and the strengthening of existing support channels in their organizations as part of the Sahas initiative.
