Sakhi Centre Rescues and Reunites Abandoned Woman with Family in Karimnagar District

On Friday, the Sakhi Centre, a civil society organisation, rescued and reunited an abandoned woman with her family in Karimnagar district. On June 16, an Anganwadi instructor reported that a married woman was wandering in the Chintakunta region and was visibly concerned about her safety.

When the Sakhi crew arrived at the location, they discovered that the woman was deaf and dumb, making it difficult to acquire information on her. They sought help from staff members at Karimnagar’s Government Deaf and Dumb School, who identified her as Swapna from Manchineella Banda village in Akkannapet mandal, Siddipet.

The woman’s information was published on social media, prompting her parents to contact the Sakhi Centre. They said that Swapna left the village because of abuse from her husband, Chiranjeevi, who was having an extramarital affair. The parents had previously reported their child missing to the police.

The Sakhi Centre administrators handed back Swapna’s custody to her parents on Friday after confirming the paperwork at the police station. The officers also counselled Swapna’s parents, ensuring them support and providing Swapna with refuge. Chiranjeevi will face legal action for his harassment.

The Sakhi Centre specialises in offering complete support to women who have experienced domestic violence, sexual abuse, trafficking, rape, acid attacks, or child marriage. They provide free temporary housing, required materials, medical services, case registration, compensation support, and aid with filing FIRs at police stations.
