SEC Connived with Ruling Party—Irregularities in Elections: Marri

Hyderabad: Former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Tuesday said that the election of the Nereducharla municipal chairperson had mocked the democracy.  He alleged that the officials of the state government had become a puppet in the hands of the ruling TRS party leaders.

Speaking to media persons, he said that the voting rights of the members should be as per the notice issued by the state election commission. He alleged that the ruling party leaders had prepared another list of the members with voting rights on Monday. He said that there was nothing pathetic than this. He alleged that the state election commission had connived with the state government, and the commission had not taken action on the complaints made by the Congress party. Reddy said that the functioning of the election commission was shameful and added that they had boycotted the elections as the commission had not listened to them.      He condemned the arrest of TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachander Rao.

TPCC spokesperson G. Niranjan said that the election commission should act in an impartial manner. He also alleged that the election commission had conspired with the state government to ensure the victory of the ruling party leaders. He alleged that the ex-officio vote of another member was added after the beginning of the election process. He also alleged that the names of the ex-officio members were added in an illegal manner. He also alleged that the state election commissioner V Nagi reddy had insulted them by denying an appointment on the issue. He demanded the state government to immediately remove the election commissioner.
