Second G20 Digital Economy Working Group meeting in Hyderabad from April 17

Officials said on Sunday that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) will host the second in-person meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) here from April 17 to 19.

MeitY Secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma and Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman told reporters here that the inaugural address will be given by Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan and Social Justice and Empowerment A Narayanaswamy.

The side events will primarily focus on digital connectivity, with three panel discussions on the themes of ‘High Speed Mobile Broadband and its impacts on lives, society and industry’, ‘Digital Inclusion: Connecting the Unconnected’, and ‘Sustainable, Green Digital Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities,’ the officials said.

Global experts will share their knowledge of emerging and telecommunications technologies, as well as technology-led inclusive development.

On the second and third days of the meetings, G20 members and invited guests from countries and international organizations would hold extensive discussions on actionable deliverables in priority areas such as “Digital Public Infrastructure,” “Cybersecurity,” and “Digital Skill.”

According to officials, the delegates will visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Hyderabad to gain firsthand knowledge of India’s expertise in emerging digital and telecom technologies such as 5G-i, 6G, Internet of Things (IoT), and various cases pertaining to citizen welfare.

On April 18, a workshop titled ‘Multi-stakeholder Consultation for Mutual Recognition of Digital Skills’ will also be held.

The ‘Stay Safe Online (SSO)’ campaign and the ‘G20 Digital Innovation Alliance (DIA)’ were launched under the Indian Presidency to engage with ordinary people, particularly youths and entrepreneurs in G20 member countries, according to officials.

MeitY held the first Digital Economy Working Group meeting in Lucknow in February as part of India’s G20 presidency.
