Secunderabad Cantonment residents ask how they pose a threat

The illegal closing of roads by the Local Military Authority has sparked outrage across the Secunderabad Cantonment, with many questioning why citizens are being treated as threats in their courtyard.

The frustration was perhaps best expressed by senior citizen Rangacharyulu Amaravadi, who took to Twitter on Tuesday to address IT, Minister KT Rama Rao, pointing out that as an 80-year-old affected by the SCB road restrictions/closure, it was relevant to ask whose security the LMA was concerned about.

If it is the case of their men, how come they are free to mix and roam about in civilian areas? If it is the security of their assets and ammunition, the well-trained and disciplined military force cannot be questioned on that score because they are the guardians of national security,” the senior citizen said, adding that segregation of military areas was “colonial highhandedness perpetrated in the name of so-called security.

Surprisingly, retired military veterans and their families are exempt from the limitations! Is it true that civilians are less patriotic? Who is more courteous now!” exclaimed the elderly Sainikpuri resident.

With inhabitants of the Cantonment venting their rage on the streets through signature campaigns and candlelight marches, another Twitter user, Adithya M Reddy, claimed Secunderabad required its distinct master plan, covering sections of the Cantonment.

All the citizens want are the fundamentals! Request that the government hold an all-party meeting to resolve! (sp) he tweeted. Another resident, Akhilesh Singi, said that even after 75 years of independence, residents in the Cantonment were still requesting basic lighting, roads, and access.

Green Sainikpuri, the Twitter handle of the Federation of Northeastern Colonies of Secunderabad, on the other hand, inquired whether the LMA was granted special powers by the Army Headquarters to close roads illegally. The Federation also questioned whether the Defence Minister and the Ministry approved such conduct, pointing out that the LMA was disobeying their directives.

National officials should recognise the true issue and act to remedy it, not for political gain. Civilians, too, are Indians, according to the Federation. The RWAs of the Federation of New Bolarum Colonies and the Federation of Northern Hyderabad Colonies also expressed their support for the cause, tweeting to the Defence Minister that it was past time to resolve the road closure issue.

The public is being inconvenienced by the loss of road connectivity in the city’s centre!” You’re simply halting development! the Federation stated.
