Seychelles president gifts giant tortoises to Nehru Zoological Park Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park Monday received a pair of giant Aldabra tortoises.

In a goodwill gesture, Seychelles has gifted a pair of giant Aldabra tortoise to India.

Thanking Seychellois President Danny Faure for the gift, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the creatures with long life span have witnessed three centuries and are a symbol of “our ever-lasting” friendship.

The both male and female tortoises, which are endemic to Seychelles, are aged about 20 years, were handed over to Nehru Zoo Park Director Sidhananda Kukrety and Curator Shivani Dogra by Seychelles Botanical Garden CEO Raymond A Brioche, Zoo officials said here.

The Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi, has given its permission to house these tortoises at Nehru Zoological Park, the officials said.

After handing over the two tortoises, Brioche accompanied with the top officials, visited the zoo and appreciated the hygiene and cleanliness of the zoo, the officials added.
