Noted Bollywood film actress Shabana Azmi said that initiative of government against ‘triple talaq’ should be appreciated and welcomed as it is oppressive custom against Muslim women.
Azmi said Muslim women were being exploited from many decades through this oppressive custom of triple talaq. She said that Indian constitution never permits any atrocities or exploitation of women.
“Triple talaq was an instrument by which atrocities were committed on Muslim women..it is against the Indian Constitution…we welcome the law enacted by the government in this regard,” Azmi said.
She said there is a need to create awareness on the matter and stressed on the need to give exemplary punishment to those found guilty of such heinous crimes to send a strong message in society. Speaking about women empowerment Azmi said government has taken many initiatives for women empowerment and has launched many schemes.
