Raksha Bandhan is traditionally celebrated by sisters tying Rakhis to their brothers as a sign of good fortune and prosperity. However, stories of siblings selflessly donating organs to save each other’s lives emerged this year, demonstrating the depth of sibling love and sacrifice.
Ganesh, a 35-year-old mason from Visakhapatnam, was suffering from kidney failure and reliant on dialysis. His 43-year-old elder sister, Chandravathi, stepped forward to give one of her kidneys, giving him a fresh lease on life.
Similarly, Veerabhadra, a 35-year-old video editor from Raidurgam, received a kidney donation at KIMS Saveera Hospital in Anantapur from his younger sister Gouthamma, 26.
Sheetal Bhandari, a 43-year-old Hyderabad boutique owner, found hope in her younger brother, Dushyanth, 37, who donated his kidney to her.
Ajith Sharma, 60, of Sikkim, received a kidney donation from his younger sister Ramadevi, 56, at KIMS Hospitals in Secunderabad in a reverse gesture.
Sandhyarani, a 43-year-old Nirmal sister, donated a portion of her liver to her 47-year-old elder brother Manohar at KIMS Hospital in Secunderabad.
These anecdotes demonstrate that the spirit of Rakhi extends beyond customary ceremonies, demonstrating the incredible lengths siblings are ready to go to safeguard the well-being of their siblings. They emphasize the enduring spirit of love, sacrifice, and unity that defines Raksha Bandhan.
