Hyderabad : The world badminton champion PV Sindhu has won the prestigious padma Bhushan award. The six time world boxing champion Mary Kom won another prestigious padma Vibhushan award. Sindhu outclassed her opponent Nazomi Okuhara by 21-7, 21-7 in the BWF World Championships last month to bag a gold medal .
The awards were declared by the union government. It has also given padmasri awards to seven other women under sports quota. The names of these sports persons are wrestler Vinesh poghat table tennis star Manika Batra, Cricketer harmanpreet Kaur, hockey player Rani Rampal, former shooter suma siroor. Sindhu has won the padmasri in the year 2015. Although her name was recommended for the padmabhushan award in the year 2017, the Center didn’t consider it. (NSS)
