Somajiguda ranks second among the best high streets in country

Somajiguda in the city has ranked second on the list of best high streets in the country in terms of providing a better shopping experience.

According to a Knight Frank survey, Bengaluru’s MG Road is the country’s top high street, followed by Somajiguda in second place, Linking Road in Mumbai, and South Extension in Delhi.

The ranking study was conducted for 30 high streets across the top eight markets as part of Knight Frank India’s flagship annual retail report ‘Think India Think Retail 2023 – High Street Real Estate Outlook,’ in collaboration with Phygital Retail Convention 2023.

The best high streets were those with easy access, ample parking, and a diverse assortment of retailers. The layout and master planning of the high street define the visibility.

Khan Market (Delhi) and DLF Galleria (Gurugram) scored very low, whereas markets aligned along the access road scored very high, including MG Road (Bengaluru), Somajiguda (Hyderabad), Linking Road (Mumbai), Anna Nagar, Park Street, and Camac Street (Kolkata).

While assessing the highest percentage of modern and non-modern retail arenas in the country, the Knight Frank survey placed Hyderabad second, with only NCR ahead of it.

While the NCR had 5.2 million sft of retail arena, Hyderabad came in second with 1.8 million sqf, followed by Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, each with 1.5 million sft.

However, in terms of total modern retail arena percentage, Hyderabad, with 1.1 million sft, is closing in on NCR, which has 1.4 million sft.

Shishir Baijal, Chairman & Managing Director at Knight Frank India, said, “Globally, cities are identified by their high streets, often one of the main attractions of the city, and the brands on these streets – a barometer of the city’s worth on a global platform.”
