State government will move SC against HC’s stay on reservations: KCR

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao today announced that the State government will move the Supreme Court against the interim orders of the High Court that reservations should not exceed 50per cent in Panchayat Raj elections.

The Chief Minister has decided that the government would appeal to the Supreme Court that the earlier permission of the Supreme Court to implement 61 percent reservation in Telangana including 34 percent reservation to the backward classes to be reinstated.

The Chief Minister has instructed the Cabinet sub-committee to meet on Wednesday and do necessary exercise for filing a petition in Supreme Court. The Chief Minister suggested that the additional advocate general as well as all concerned officers are also to be invited to the cabinet sub- committee meeting and discuss thoroughly the pro’s and con’s of the issue and finalize the strategy to present the argument in the court and the necessity to implement 61percent reservation in Telangana Panchayat Raj Institutions.

The Chief Minister criticized that the Congress party filed the petition through its party sarpanch Swapna Reddy opposing the 34% reservation for backward classes and thus obstructing reservation for them. The Chief Minister made it clear that the state government is fully committed to provide 34% reservation to Backward Classes and the necessary legal battle will be fought to achieve this. (NSS)
