TDP’s No Trust Motion Falls Flat

Hyderabad: TDP’s miscalculated plan to move a no confidence motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP-led NDA Government to exert pressure to get Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh miserably boomeranged.

The Modi government sailed through comfortably in the Lok Sabha when the motion tabled by TDP was put to vote by a margin of 325 to 126 of the opposition combined. As a result TDP President and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu suffered an humiliating defeat of being a great strategist and a strong binding force to unite the opposition forces, especially the regional parties, for the ensuing 2019 elections.

What is more the no confidence motion and its ultimate defeat also exposed the chinks in the proposed yet another “maha katbandhan” of the opposition parties to take on the BJP in the coming elections.

As a matter of fact the TDP lost a great opportunity to corner the Modi Government and push the BJP to the was despite it’s member Galla Jayadev presented a detailed reports with facts and figures how Andhra Pradesh was “left in the lurch” for denying its the much promised financial assistance and other incentives. What undermined his efforts to nail Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “betraying” the people of AP by not keeping up his promise was his repeated virulent attack and usage of certain terms by crossing all limits of decency and
decorum.

It was in fact the party’s young MP from Srikakulam K. Rammohan Naidu, who spoke in fluent Hindi, caught the attention of the members from all sides in the House with his impassioned speech expressing the frustration and concern among the people of the state over the denial of SCS.

The very purpose of the no trust motion lost its sheen when the TDP members stormed into the well of the House and raised slogans disturbing the Prime Minister during his reply. Another chance provided to the party to rebut the clarifications made by the PM on the SCS issue was also lost when the party’s member Kesineni Srinivas instead presenting the “true facts” indulged in histrionics by poking fun at the PM and describing him as a ” super Bollywood star” and ” greatest actor of the world”. Obviously an irritated Speaker Sumithra Mahajan reprimanded and did not permit him to continue and immediately put the no trust motion to vote.

The TDP also antagonized the Congress party by repeatedly holding it responsible for bifurcating the undivided Andhra Pradesh “undemocratically, unscientifically, arbitrarily” etc. This despite the fact that the party had reached the Congress leadership seeking support for the no confidence motion. Another big jolt for Chandrababu Naidu was the Prime Minister appreciating the TRS and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for concentrating on development of the new state of Telangana post bifurcation unlike Chandrababu Naidu who was more interested in political gains. (NSS).
