Teams from GHMC, Fire Department to inspect godowns

After the recent fire-related incident in the city, inspections will be conducted by special teams from the GHMC and the Fire Services Department to learn more about commercial establishments and godowns that are at risk of fire.

Different inspections will be conducted by the team within the GHMC limits, and they will also guarantee that owners adhere to safety standards and check whether commercial establishments and godowns have fire No-Objection Certificates (NOCs), said Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali after a meeting with GHMC and Police officials here.

The discussion went over the situation in the aftermath of the Bhoiguda fire. The Home Minister stated that instead of a room in the commercial establishment or godown, proprietors should give a separate area for workers. Workers should not be permitted to prepare meals or smoke on the same premises.

“We are also looking into relocating dangerous commercial establishments from residential neighbourhoods to the city outskirts for public safety,” he said.

Although attempts were being made to develop a long-term plan to prevent fires, it was agreed to implement some immediate measures to reduce incidences and preserve lives, he said.

Aside from the Bhoiguda fire, four other fire incidents were reported in city.

In the first case, a fire overtook a chemical factory in Chenna Reddy Nagar, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Bala Nagar police station. After the fire overtook the factory, workers fled for their lives. Two fires were reported earlier in the factory, according to locals. The cause is stated to be a lack of safety precautions and a rise in temperature.

Three huts in Bagh Amberpet were destroyed following a fire that broke out. Firefighters rushed in and extinguished the flames. According to officials, residents were manufacturing acid and phenyl, which is what ignited the fire. However, no casualties have been reported because no one was in the huts at the time of the mishap.

A minor fire had occurred in Hyderguda’s Cafe Bahar. The fire broke out on the building’s second floor. The fire department was notified, and the fire was extinguished. In another incident, a car caught fire inside the jurisdiction of the Jeedimetla police station.

There were no injuries recorded because the driver of the car exited the vehicle after spotting smoke coming from the engine. The fire department extinguished the fire, however, the car was completely wrecked in the incident.
