Telangana: 1200 additional MBBS seats to be available in govt hospitals

The Telangana government has offered 1200 MBBS seats to students interested in pursuing careers in medicine for the current academic year 2022-23.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has already approved four colleges in the districts of Jagtial, Nagarkunool, Sangareddy, and Wanaparthy, according to senior health officials. Another four medical colleges are expected to open in the coming weeks in Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Kothagudem, and Ramgundam.

Each college offers 150 MBBS seats, for a total of 1,200 additional medical seats. Telangana currently has over 1,700 government MBBS seats available, with an additional 1,200 seats available.

Telangana’s government announced plans to build medical colleges in every district at a cost of more than Rs 1,000 crore.

Apart from opening eight medical colleges this academic year, the state government has already begun planning to open eight more medical colleges the following year (2023-24).

To that end, the State government approved an administrative budget of Rs. 1,479 crore last month for the construction of eight more medical colleges and the improvement of Telangana’s affiliated government general hospitals. Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Khammam, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Asifabad, and Jangaon are some of the nearby towns.

The eight medical institutions would have added 800 MBBS seats by the start of the next academic year.

Medical equipment policy launched for govt hospitals

T Harish Rao, the state’s health minister, formally launched a comprehensive medical equipment policy for Telangana on Saturday. The medical equipment policy aims to ensure that vital health care infrastructure in Telangana’s government hospitals is maintained and repairs are completed quickly, without forcing patients to incur out-of-pocket expenses at private diagnostic services.

On the occasion, the State Health Department also established a call center (88885-26666) so that hospital administrators can file a complaint and have medical equipment repaired as soon as possible.
