Telangana among few States where 5G has been launched aggressively: Chief Secretary

Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari stated that mobile connectivity is available in 97.7 percent of the villages in the state.

The Chief Secretary, who presided over the State Broadband Committee meeting on Tuesday, stated that the State’s tele-density (107%) was among the highest in the country, with more than four crore mobile connections. Telangana was among the few states in the country where 5G was aggressively launched, she said.

The meeting also reviewed the status of pending ‘Right of Way’ applications and decided to form a working committee to expedite the deployment of 5G services. The meeting also brought to the Chief Secretary’s attention the need to issue necessary instructions to all engineering departments to begin digging only after prior notification via the “Call Before U Dig” (CBuD) App.

Senior IAS officer A Santhi Kumari has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Telangana State. Following orders from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the 1989 batch IAS officer assumed her duties as the State’s first female Chief Secretary at the Secretariat in BRK Bhavan at 3.15 p.m. on.

Santhi Kumari will take over incumbent Somesh Kumar, who was relieved from the Telangana government on Tuesday by the Union Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and told to join the Andhra Pradesh government by January 12, following the Telangana High Court’s quashing of the Central Administrative Tribunal’s (CAT) 2016 order allocating the officer to Telangana.

Shortly after taking over, the new Chief Secretary met with the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. The Chief Minister wished her well on the occasion. Prior to her appointment as Chief Secretary, she served as Special Chief Secretary for Environment and Forests.
