Telangana BJP leader arrested for defamation of CM and govt

As reported by the Hayathnagar police, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Ghatkesar was arrested on Friday after false allegations were levelled against K. Chandrashekhar Rao and the government with malicious intent to mislead the public and cause unrest.

It was J.Bala Krishna Reddy from Ghatkesar who was arrested.

In an insulting manner against the Chief Minister, the BJP state unit under the leadership of Bandi Sanjay, and organisers J.Balakrishna Reddy, Rani Rudrama and others organised an event in view of the State Formation Day and misused the dais by putting up a skit with the help of BJP cultural team. Various vernacular news channels also broadcast the same, police said.

The TRS’s social media convenor, Y Satish Reddy, filed a police complaint along with the video footage of the skit, stating that the organisers used the platform to defame government schemes while making false accusations against the chief minister and the government in order to incite hatred and unrest among the people.

According to the written complaint, a case has been filed against Bandi Sanjay, Jitta Balakrishna Reddy, Rani Rudrama, Daruvu Yellanna and their team.

As per the FIR, the act violated democratic ethos and hurt public sentiment by defaming and attacking the elected government and the state’s chief minister personally.

After reviewing the videos and other evidence, police concluded the event was organized to make derogatory remarks, and personal attacks, and to portray the Chief Minister in a negative light. The police said that the skit insulted a person who holds a constitutional post and was democratically elected by the people of the state.

BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar and others spoke against the arrest. “Why was he arrested?” they asked. “Had he committed a heinous crime? Had he murdered someone? Why were they so eager to arrest him at midnight?”
