Telangana: Free education and books provided in government-run institutions

After Telangana was formed from Andhra Pradesh, the state government made it a priority to strengthen the education sector.

The government has provided students with free books and study materials, as well as the best facilities in government schools and colleges.

Telangana’s government currently operates 188 residential educational institutions in English, Urdu, and Telugu for classes 1 through 10, as well as Intermediate and Degree Colleges.

Among these, 69 are exclusively for boys, 103 are exclusively for girls, and 16 are co-educational. In addition to free education, the government provides students with free uniforms, books, and mid-day meals.

Furthermore, the government provides the best computer and science laboratory facilities for students in public schools.

“We are getting study materials for free,” Sameera Begum, a student at BJR girls’ junior college, was quoted as saying. “I am very thankful to the state government for providing such a good opportunity to study here,” Sameera added.

Kathija Fathima from Babu Jagjivan College said, “I have all the facilities in the college. We are provided with free books and have a good education.”

Shereen Fathima, a BiPC student, expressed gratitude to the state government for the facilities made available to them.

Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance

The Telangana government has directed that all higher education institutions in the state implement Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance for students, teachers, and non-teaching staff.

In a memo issued on October 12, Vakati Karuna, the secretary (higher education), stated that biometric attendance is made mandatory for all universities, government colleges, as well as aided and unaided private colleges.

The memo requested that the Commissioner of Collegiate Education take the necessary steps to put in place the Aadhaar-enabled biometric attendance system. It will be used to calculate attendance for students in order to promote them to higher classes, as well as for their e-pass scholarship and fee reimbursement, among other things.
