Telangana government to begin administering CorBEvax from April 19

According to a top health official, the Telangana government has arranged 5 lakh doses of CorBEvax, despite an acute shortage of Covid-19 vaccines.

There has been an increase in Covid-19 cases in many countries around the world as well as in some states within the country, so vaccine doses have been arranged accordingly.

The vaccine will be available at all government and urban primary health centers as of Wednesday (April 19), said Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr G. Srinivasa Rao.

As CorBEvax has been approved by the Centre for heterologous administration, it can be administered as a precautionary dose to beneficiaries who have taken Covaxin or Covishield first and second doses.

All arrangements have been made by the state government to ensure uninterrupted availability of Covid vaccines at government Covid vaccine centers such as primary health centers and urban primary health centers.

In an appeal to the public, the director of public health urged people to take all missed doses.

A letter from the state government to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was sent last month requesting additional Covid booster shots for the state. After the Centre asked states to directly procure Covid vaccines and booster shots from the open market, Telangana decided to procure 15 lakh doses from Hyderabad-based Biological E.

A total of 41 new Covid cases were reported in Telangana on Monday, while 30 people recovered. There was a 99.48 percent recovery rate. There are 269 active Covid cases in the state.
