Telangana Government to Introduce Financial Aid Scheme for Street Vendors

Responding to AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen) leaders’ persistent concerns about the welfare of street vendors, Telangana’s Home Minister, Mahmood Ali, announced that the state government will soon introduce a new financial aid scheme to address this issue.

After AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi raised the situation of street sellers in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, the statement was made. These vendors, who sell things from small shops and carts on footpaths and road corners, frequently struggle to make a living.

Owaisi asked the state government to help the street vendor community by allocating a portion of Rs 20 to 25 crores for financial assistance. In response to this worry, Mahmood Ali stated that a dedicated system would be implemented to support these suppliers.

“We will be introducing a separate scheme for them, similar to the Rs 1 lakh minority aid scheme,” the Home Minister remarked. He went on to say that under this arrangement, each street vendor would receive Rs 25,000 in financial aid.

Under the Pattana Pragati welfare scheme, the state government had already selected 618 vending zones and approved 2,676 shelters for street vendors by March 2023. Telangana street vendors also earned a share of the total interest subsidy of Rs 66.56 crores and cash incentives of Rs 23 crores given across the country. This new program intends to provide further financial assistance to this vulnerable group
