Telangana govt sets up ‘Women Safety Wing’

Telangana government is very keen in providing safety and security to women at all places and introduced ‘SHE Teams’ to prevent harassment to women in public places. Now Telangana government with an intention to prioritise women safety, is planning to scale it up by setting up a new wing called as ‘Women Safety Wing’ which will be headed by Inspector General of Police (Law and Order and Incharge Women Safety) Swati Lakra.

Women Safety, Telangana who will look after Bharosa Centres and SHE Teams in all districts of Telangana.

On the instructions of DGP, a dedicated SHE teams are created in each district headed by one Deputy SP/ACP and these teams will be located in the District Headquarters under the direct control of the district /Unit officers, she said.

They will be giving a two days’ training to all the teams in a phased manner at IT and C training lab, situated in Director General of Police office.

The first batch training, was conducted for SHE Teams members from various districts and the members were imparted training on “Gender Sensitization and functioning of She teams.”

Since these initiatives are successful it has been extended to all districts across the state of Telangana.
