Telangana polls not with four other States: CEO

Hyderabad: Telangana Assembly polls will be conducted separately and will not be combined with that of four other States going for polls.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar today rejected reports that elections for Telangana will be clubbed with four other States going for polls. It may be said here that some newspapers have reported that the Election Commission has taken a decision to club the Assembly Elections of Telangana with other States like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Mizoram and Chattishgarh.

In a communiqué here, Rajat Kumar clarified that such reports appeared in a section of the media are purely speculative. With this, the CEO clarified that the elections for Telangana are not going to be clubbed with other four States. He also appealed to newspapers and electronic media to avoid such speculative stories and verify before going to write and telecast such news items from officials.

In the wake of dissolution of the Assembly on September 6, the EC has conducted a meeting in Delhi and expressed satisfaction at the poll arrangements. The EC having said that election code of conduct part 7 has come into effect on the day of dissolution of the Assembly, will send a team of officials to Hyderabad. It will soon arrive in the city to take fresh stock of the same and will announce the schedule. (NSS)
