Telangana: Rain affects coal production in SCCL Kothagudem mines

Due to heavy rain, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) opencast mines in Bhadradri Kothagudem district cited an affect on its coal production on Friday. Rainwater haulage inundated coal mines in Kothagudem, Yellandu, Manugur, and Sathupalli, causing a halt in the coal production process and halting overburden removal as roads became slick.

In response to the heavy inflow of water, officials at the Chhattisgarh State Taliperu project in Cherla mandal lifted three gates and released 3,945 cusecs of water downstream. The project’s water level was measured at 73.10 meters.

Dammapet mandal received 42 mm of rain, Aswaraopet received about 15 cm, and the other mandals in the district received light to moderate rain. Khammam’s Kallur mandal received 41 mm of rain, while the remaining mandals received light to moderate rain.

Cotton procurement in Kothagudem

Cotton procurement arrangements were being made, and 96,483 metric tonnes of cotton production was expected in the district.

District Collector Anudeep Durishetty directed officials from the CCI, agriculture, marketing, police, transportation, fire, and legal metrology departments to work together to make effective cotton procurement arrangements. He stated that the procurement would take place at ginning mills in the Kothagudem, Singareni, Bhadrachalam, and Burgampad mandals.

Cotton cultivation was encouraged by the state government as part of crop diversification, and cotton was the district’s second most cultivated crop. The crop was grown on 1.60 lakh acres of land in the district by farmers. Cotton fetched a good price last year.

Durishetty noted that the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has set a minimum support price of Rs.6380 per quintal this year.

He directed that CCTV cameras be installed and that safety precautions be taken at the procurement centers. To avoid delays in the procurement process, tokens must be issued to farmers in accordance with crop booking.
