Telangana: Rajya Sabha seats desired by top businessmen

As three Rajya Sabha seats are expected to be vacant in June due to the retirement of D Srinivas, Capt Lakshmikantha Rao, and the resignation of Banda Prakash Mudiraj from Telangana Rashtra Samithi, several bigwigs, including businessmen, are seeking them.

Due to the fact that TRS has 103 members in the 119-member Assembly, it is slated to win all three RS seats. A number of bigwigs are eyeing the RS berth, which is sure to be taken by the pink party. Party sources say senior leader Captain Lakshmikantha Rao is likely to be re-elected.

There are other candidates eyeing the Rajya Sabha seats, such as businessman C Lakshmi Rajam and Namaste Telangana CMD D Damodar Rao. Having been expecting the berth since 2014, Rajam is looking forward to it.

The Chief Minister asked him to close his newspaper, however, which damaged his relationship with him. Rajam was also seen with the CM during the inauguration of Yadadri Temple. The post has also been anticipated by Damodar Rao for some time.

Despite Rajeshwar Rao’s name being mentioned, sources said his involvement would be questionable because of the Samatha Murthy episode at Muchintal. There is a possibility that KCR skipped the inauguration of “The Statue of Equality.”.

Some former MPs are also applying for RS berths, including party leaders. It has been reported that Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Sitaram Naik and Manda Jagannadham are expecting berths. Motkupally Narsimhulu, actor Prakash Raj, and BC leader PL Srinivas are also doing the rounds.

Motkupally is expecting the TRS chief to favour him even though Prakash Raj claimed he had not asked for any seats from the party. The Dalit Bandhu chairmanship had been earmarked for Motkupally, but no such announcement was made.

Khammam leader Srinivas Reddy indicated that he was receiving offers from the BJP and Congress to join them. When it comes to deciding the next President, the TRS chief would have crucial seven Rajya Sabha votes, so it will be interesting to see who he would prefer.
