Telangana: Revised fee structure for engineering colleges

The Telangana government on Wednesday announced a new fee structure for 159 engineering colleges in the state. Based on the recommendations of the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC), the government revised the fee structure.

According to the GO, the number of colleges collecting more than one lakh fees has increased to 40, while the minimum fee has been raised to Rs. 45, 000. The new fee structure will be in effect for the next three years.

Although the government approved raising the fee in engineering colleges, no decision on the fee reimbursement scheme has been made.

MGIT to collect highest fee

For the next three years, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT) will collect the highest fee, Rs. 1.6 lakh per student per year.

CVR College of Engineering will have a fee of Rs. 1.5 lakh per year, while CBIT, Vardhaman College of Engineering, and Vasavi College of Engineering will collect Rs. 1.40 lakh.

Though the government approved fee increases in Telangana engineering colleges, it clarified that it was based on information uploaded by the colleges online. If anything is incorrect, the fee structure will be revised, according to the government.

Telangana tuition fee reimbursement scheme for engineering students

Previously, eligible Telangana students received a minimum fee of Rs 35000 under the tuition fee reimbursement scheme.

Despite the increase in the minimum fee to Rs. 45000, it is unclear whether the fee reimbursement scheme amount will also increase.

The decision to raise engineering course fees in various private colleges in Telangana will not only make engineering courses more expensive for students, but it will also place a greater burden on the state government’s exchequers, as the government will be required to reimburse the entire college fees of students who bag ranks under 10000 in the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET).
