Telangana Seeks Full Body Meeting of KRMB After July 20

In the wake of the ongoing dispute between the two Telugu states on the Krishna river waters, the Telangana State Government has addressed another letter to the Krishna River Water Management Board (KRMB) requesting that the meeting of the three-member committee slated for July 9 be postponed.

The state special Chief Secretary Rajit Kumar addressed the letter to the Board. The letter requested that a full meeting of the Board be held after July 20. It rejected the demand of the A P Government to stop power generation by the Telangana government. Listing out the agenda of the state government, the letter requested that the agenda be included in the points to be discussed by the Board to be held after July 20.

The government, in particular, requested for a review of the water sharing between the two states, stopping the works on RDS and Rayalaseema left the canal, which is being carried on by the AP government. The letter also wanted the Board to take steps for stopping the diversion of excess water from Pothireddypadu to outside the Krishna basin.

In the letter, the Government also proposed allocation of 45 TMC water to the State, as the CWC had given clearance for the Polavaram project. It further said that drinking water be counted as  20 percent only.

Further, Rajat Kumar had also clarified on power generation by the State government from the Srisailam reservoir and stated that the Srisailam project was sanctioned by the Planning Commission in 1963 as a Hydro-Electric Project (HEP) for supplying water to Nagarjunasagar project by power generation.
