Telangana sees more students choosing engineering courses

Engineering admissions have seen a four-year high, indicating a strong desire among students to pursue technical disciplines and find work in Telangana, which is attracting large IT investments that are assisting in the creation of jobs.

A quick look at the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) convener quota engineering admissions reveals a 35% increase in enrollment in 2022 compared to 2019.

In 2022, 62,170 students applied for engineering admissions, up from 46,134 in 2019. Since 2019, engineering admissions have been steadily increasing. During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, enrollments increased by around 10,000, with 57,545 admissions in 2021 compared to 47,739 the previous year.

The majority of students enrolled in thriving BE/BTech in Computer Science and Engineering, IT and allied courses.

The increase in engineering admissions piqued the interest of higher education officials and experts alike, who attributed it to a large number of multinational companies establishing their companies, research and data centers in Hyderabad, resulting in a large number of job opportunities.

According to data from the IT department, employment in the IT sector in the state was 5,82,126 in 2019-20, rising to 6,28,615 in 2020-21 and 7,78,121 in 2021-2022.

Companies such as Pi Health, Sonata Software, State Street, Rite Software, Charles Schwab, and Medtronic PLC have announced investments/expansions in the state, increasing employment by another 42,000 jobs.

Aside from that, the state government has established the best start-up ecosystems, such as T-Hub and WeHub, which are transforming ideas into start-ups.

Meanwhile, 1,56,879 candidates who qualified in the TS EAMCET 2023 engineering stream will be able to participate in admissions counseling, which will begin on June 26. Registration for the first phase of counselling will take place between June 26 and July 5, with certificate verification taking place between June 28 and July 6.

Web options can be exercised between June 28 and July 8, with provisional seat allocation taking place on or before July 12. Students who have received a provisional seat allotment must pay their tuition fees and self-report online between July 12 and July 19.
