Telangana: Vikarabad to get detention center for offenders

A meeting was held by Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar with officials last week to plan the establishment of a detention center to house offenders involved in drug trafficking and other crimes.

As part of efforts to deport foreigners, particularly those involved in drug trafficking, as well as those living in the state past the expiration date of their visa.

Vikarabad, 75km away from Hyderabad, will become the state’s detention center. As a result of the decision last week, district officials were directed to establish the center as soon as possible. Hyderabad police’s Central Crime Station (CCS) is currently serving as a temporary detention facility. In addition to overstaying their visas, those with other criminal offenses will be sent there.

Approximately 40 detainees will be housed in the Vikarabad detention center. As soon as the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRORO) completes the deportation formalities, foreign offenders will be held at the facility.

In a major reshuffle after Inspector’s arrest, 69 cops were transferred

City police commissioner CV Anand transferred 69 inspectors on Wednesday after Marredpally Circle Inspector K Nageshwar Rao was arrested on rape and attempted murder charges.

Several rounds of discussions were conducted by senior officers of Hyderabad city police, chaired by the Commissioner of Police before it was decided that the officers working in law and order (L&O), traffic, and Special Branch (SB), command rooms, and control rooms who have completed three years of service in their current posts would be transferred.

Rao is accused of abusing and raping a woman while her husband, who works for Rao, was away. After returning home, the husband attacked him with a stick. After hitting the victim’s husband with his revolver, Rao threatened to file a fake case against them for running a brothel.

Several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were violated by Nageshwar Rao: sections 376(2) (being a police officer commits rape), 307 (attempting murder), 448 (punishment for house-trespass), and 365 (kidnapping or abducting with the intent to cause the person to be secretly and wrongfully confined). A 15-day judicial remand was issued to him on July 11.
